Pioneer Sleigh Ride Tours

January to March

3-hour Programs

Take an old-fashioned horse-drawn sleigh ride around the fields while observing the farm life using all 5 senses or visit the farm animals in their winter quarters, demonstrating the importance of caring for living creatures; hens, bunnies, goats, sheep, ponies draft horses, and more. Or come play on the tire swing in the hayloft of the 1930’s barn and jump on the straw mountain!

Optional Activities include:

  • LIVING HISTORY: Old fashioned horse drawn sleigh ride
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & MOTOR SKILLS: Skating on the frozen pond (helmets are mandatory for students) and Snowshoeing (Snowshoes are NOT supplied.) Please bring your own snowshoeing equipment.
  • PIONEER LIFE & APPLIED MATHEMATICS:  Make tea biscuits with farm fresh eggs and serve them with fresh butter that they churn themselves, along with a glass of milk ($1.00/student for ingredients)
  • SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: Make maple taffy on the snow and enjoy pancakes with all-natural maple syrup ($1.00/student for ingredients)
  • LIERTATURE & TRADITIONS: French Canadian Traditions e.g. La tire sur la neige and French Canadian songs

Nutritious Snack: Bring your own nutritious lunch. (Best is local foods or home-made). Please DO NOT bring donuts, sodas, and/or flavoured sports drinks.

Times: 3-4 hours over the morning to afternoon e.g. 10am – 2pm.

Costs: Tour is $6.75/student (plus hst) = $7.63. There is no charge for helpers.
