Local food Program, JK to Grade 3

Our School Tours ours are designed to compliment and adhear to the Ontario Science & Technology Curriculum, Drama & Music Curriculum, Heritage & Citizenship Curriculum and Health & Physical Education Curriculum for children in Kindergarten to Grade 3. This an easy and fun way for teachers to enrich their educational programming.

Optional Activities include:

LIVING HISTORY: Old fashioned horse drawn sleigh ride

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & MOTOR SKILLS: Take a hike or wagon ride from the bus to the Homestead, a great opportunity to observe the farm using all 5 senses. Or explore the forest maze with boreal animal cutouts. Play on the tire swing in the hayloft of the 1930’s barn and jump on the straw mountain. Play in the corn stalk maze and ride a gentle giant draft horse

PIONEER LIFE:  Visit the farm animals including baby chicks, laying hens, bunnies, goats, sheep, the donkey, ponies and draft horses

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: Visit the Pumpkin Fields. Learn how pumpkins grow and why they are nutrition and good for us to eat. Take home seeds for planting and learn about the sun and water, and how they help plants grow.

TRADITIONS: Watch the Gypsys use the slingshot

Nutritious Snack: Please ensure that everyone has a nutritious snack that is either from foods that can be grown and locally or homemade. There will be a demonstration of the Apple as the World at snack time and a discussion about being grateful for healthy nutritious food.

Times: The morning (before noon) and afternoon (after 12:30pm). Programs are about 2 hours.

Costs: Tour is $6.25/student (plus 13% HST = $7.06) There is no charge for helpers. Most of our tour is under cover, so rain is not a problem and alternate activities can be substituted. Payment is due at the time of the tour.
